illin'

I've developed some bizarre illness this weekend - utter exhaustion and a fever - no other symptoms. But the exhaustion is so rich, so perfect, that it is literally driving me to bed and to sleep for hours on end. I am not a napper so this is a very unique experience, indeed.

Suffice to say I am retreating as much as is humanly possible when one has a two year old - or otherwise known as not nearly enough.

What makes you feel better when you are sick? And how do you find the rest you need with a toddler?

I hope you feel better. This is a tough one.
Something that works well with my two...playing some of their favorite music and stacking their favorite toys and books next to them usually gives me some time to rest. Also, putting them, and myself, to bed early!

HA! That is the question - how to get well when you are mommy......and sick.
I, too, am illin' this fine weekend. Losing my voice (which the fam is happy about, I'm sure) and just feeling like shit on a stick.
Here's what I'm using to get better: LOTS of TV to entertain the kids (god, I hate doing it), Ravioli to take care of said kids every-so-often, hot lemon-honey water instead of tea, hot showers and smooth potato leek soup. That's all gone - so today I'm making vegetable soup when the energy stores are up to about 65%.
Hope you feel better, sweets. I feel your pain!

When my eldest was three and I was in the last trimester of my second pregnancy, I put her favourite video on every afternoon and caught a blessed 75-minute nap on the couch. Not enough, of course, but it helped!

(Oh, and I'm quite willing to chat with you about the question you posted on my site, assuming it's still an issue, if you want to email me. No room to get into it effectively in a comment box.)

Poor Mum. Having a toddler is so tiring. And you get so little time to stock up on precious sleep.

I have been sick many times, but our lives did not allow me to go down for the count often.

I am shamed to admit to back to back movies if I was really sick....TV was and still is my childrens drug. But it allowed me to lie down for a couple of hours.

Get better, wish I could be there to take your little one for a playdate with my girls....they would trash the joint....

Oooh I hope you feel better soon.....

Tough question: When I had one,I could usually collapse when they napped..but with two, just never seems to happen.

I have found new reserves as a sick mom...you just can't give into the illness.

It is now on rare occassions when I just can't take it anymore....I get outside help...either dh or my mom and retreat to my room.

Otherwise it is dvd's and mommy on the couch!

Once both of us came down with food poisoning and couldn't move..we had to get my inlaws to rescue us!

I have the luxury of no kids if you don't count the BF. I need to be in bed, with all the accoutrements of sickness close by - kleenex, vicks, cough syrup, nasal spray. I like to put on a movie I can drift in and out of through a drug-induced haze, sipping some Emergen-C.

I hope you feel better soon, m'dear. I'd bring you some chicken noodle soup with alphabet noodles in it if I was closer.

Wow! I'm sorry you are feeling so poorly. I cannot even begin to imagine what I would have done if I as that sick when R. was two. There was no rest then, not even at night (night terrors until she was five).

When in doubt, ginger ale and saltines always help me feel better. And hopefully she'll be OK hanging out in front of the TV for a little while so you can get your energy back.

That's what I really dread, getting deathly ill and STILL having to care for Monkey-Moo. Up 'til now Babe has come to rescue. I hope your man can do the same! I hope you feel better sooner...I'll send you some Reiki!!

A comfy couch, DVDs/videos and safe finger foods like Cheerios, my friend :)

I hope you feel better soon. Being sick with kids is so much harder.

Sigh, you just have to soldier on and hope that the other parent can cover for you a bit. But i never really found a way to hide under the covers for the couple of days i needed when sick.
Hope you feel better.

We must have licked the same door knob, because I've been fighting something similar this weekend. Yesterday, I let me 2-year-old dig in the dirt outside while I tried to rest in the sun. Not as good as curling up in bed, but it was a break. Hope you feel better...

"Rest" and "Toddler" are a contridictions in terms!

I used to gate my child into the childproof playroom with a video and crash when it got really bad. Luckily this wasn't often!

I loved the description of being tired. It makes me almost want to be sick!

Hope you feel better.

Sorry your sick my friend. I love to take Thera flu and I give myself a good poke (with acupuncture needles of course). When my daughter was wee, I'd take her into bed with me and if she wouldn't nap, I'd put on the tele so she could lay there and I could writhe in self-pity.
I hope that you're feeling better because in reality, I find caring for my child AND being sick a crappy combo.

Take good care of the self and send J-Dog and M to the park or the zoo. It won't solve all your problems but it will buy you an uninterupted nap. And log off, for heaven's sake. The internet will still be here when you get back.

I put 'em (yeah, I've got two. although one is officially a 'pre-schooler', I suppose) to bed and then go to bed myself.

Orrrr ... put on the TV. sigh.

Everyone else has already given any advice I might have, but having recently heard of a lot of cases of Lyme disease going undiagnosed on the West Coast, I wanted to mention that...

surrendering. That's the only thing to do! That, and hiring a sitter for the weeble, and sleeping until I remember my name

I have a theory that sometimes we get sick because the universe needs to slow us down. So, I hope you're resting and will be back on your feet soon.
