finally

i took today off.

i caught up on my blog reading
i went to an actual bookstore. and browsed.
had a coffee.
went grocery shopping.
saw a neighbor's baby.
painted my toes.
did three loads of laundry.
wrote and mailed a card to a friend.

and i am in the process of:
making red skinned mashed potatoes. (CSA box!)
roasting a whole chicken. (i have no idea how to do this!)
opening a bottle of wine. (i am really good at this!)

and i just took the longest shower of my life.

now i shall go pick up my child and be the loveliest, most patient mother who has ever existed on the face of the earth.

let's hear it for making time for the small and big things.

hallelujah.

I'm with Mrs. Chicky. I have been thinking about having a day like that and I think next week might be the time! Thanks for inspiring me (as you always do!)

Sound like you have mastered the Art of Spiritual Lipstick. Good for you for putting on a nice, thick coat.

Good Deal. These simple things feel so good, don't they? (I've never roasted a whole chicken either, but it sure sounds good) We get a CSA box each week too and one of the things I love about it is the inspiration to cook more often and out of the box. Have an awesome weekend!

Long overdue, Jen...and You mean it is possible to cook an entire chicken, I thought they stripped 'em and sold them for parts. Who knew?

Nobody seems to deserve it more...but still, that was one productive "day off". I'd likely have spent it laying around at home eating chips and watching movies.

it is really impossible to mess up roasting a chicken. It's just delicious and goes great with a peaceful day, a bottle of wine and patience.

Hey! I took the day off, too. I cleaned house. Oh boy! Still, kinda peaceful and nice to just do something mindless for a day. Glad you enjoyed your time off!

Oh yeah, few recipes for roasted chicken over at my site. Easy stuff and fantastic.

Good for you. Interestingly, I just cooked a whole chicken for the first time this week, too. Only I simmered mine for soup. It was a wild experience, perhaps the subject of an upcoming post.

Sounds like a good decision to take a day off. And you made excellent use of it. I usually end up hanging in front of the computer all day and then getting totally crabby because I didn't get to do anything.
